Midhouse is located 5 miles to the south-east of Kirkwall, along the shores of Scapa Flow, and is conveniently situated for touring around Orkney.
The fully equipped and recently renovated traditional stone-built farmhouse provides 2 adjoining cottages separated by a three-feet thick stone wall. Both properties have an enclosed grassed area and are on a working beef farm.

DISHAN (the 'high' end) sleeps 3 people and BURNESS (the 'low' end) sleeps 2. Both properties are Non Smoking.

Orkney cottages

Kirkwall, with its shops and tourist facilities, is 5 miles away,
and there is a post office 2.5 miles away in the village of St. Marys.
Public transport is about a quarter of a mile from the cottage

DISHAN

The accommodation, sleeping 3 is all on the ground floor and comprises a kitchen, living / dining room and a bedroom with an en suite bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom are each accessed by two steps.

kitchen The fully equipped kitchen includes an electric ceramic hob and built-in microwave combination oven, a fridge, automatic washing machine, tumble drier, iron and ironing board, and is heated by storage radiator.
The original wooden beamed living / dining room has a colour TV with remote control, video, CD/radio/cassette player and a couch and armchairs add to your comfort. It is heated by storage radiator and a focal point electric fire. living room
bedroom The bedroom has a double bed and a single bed, both with electric blankets and duvets. A panel heater provides the heating. The en suite bathroom is heated by fan heater and the bath has an electric shower incorporated.

On the front of the house there is a glass porch where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine without the wind, and beyond that is an enclosed raised grassed area. There is a small courtyard with drying facilities at the rear. Dishan has ample parking space with a tarmac road to the garden gate.

BURNESS

The accommodation, sleeping 2 is all on the ground floor and comprises a kitchen / living / dining room and a bedroom with an en suite bathroom.

The kitchen / living / dining room is fully equipped with an electric ceramic hob and built-in microwave combination oven, a fridge, automatic washing machine, tumble drier, iron and ironing board, a colour TV with remote control, video, CD/radio/cassette player and a couch and armchairs add to your comfort.
The room is heated by storage radiator and a focal point electric fire. The end window provides you with an ideal viewing point over Scapa Flow.

At the front of the house there is a raised grassed area. There is a hard surface area at the end of the house with drying facilities where you can sit and enjoy the spectacular views of Scapa Flow and the hills of Hoy.

Burness has ample parking space with a tarmac road and hard surface to the garden gate.

  • No extra charge for electricity, etc.
  • Bed linen and towels provided free of charge.
  • A payphone is provided for your convenience.
  • Milk and groceries may be obtained for you by prior arrangement.
  • Sorry no pets or facilities for infants.

Change-over day is Saturday and you are requested to vacate by 9.30am.
Access is from 3.30pm.
Please note that only Saturday-Saturday bookings are available in high season.

A deposit of £40 per week is payable on confirmation of booking.

  • Orkney can be reached by plane from several airports in Scotland (with connections from London and other UK cities).
  • Pentland Ferries operate a vehicle ferry from Gill's Bay near John o'Groats to St. Margaret's Hope on Orkney. Sailing time: only 1 hour. Tel: 01856 831 226.
  • Northlink Orkney & Shetland Ferries Limited operate 2 routes (from Scrabster direct to Orkney and from Aberdeen/Shetland to Orkney). Telephone: 0845 6000 449.
    For those travelling by train, Scrabster has coach links with the nearby railway station at Wick. There is also a coach service from Inverness. Aberdeen and Inverness both have regular air, train and coach services from all over the UK.
  • The John o'Groats passenger ferry service operates in summer and has direct coach links with Inverness.

Overseas visitors can purchase a Britrail ticket before they come to Britain. This fixed fee ticket gives you unlimited daytime rail travel throughout Britain. Discount tickets are also available on the Citylink and National Express coach services.
