From 1827 until 1897 this historic building was the Courthouse and Jail for all the islands from Harris down to Barra. Today the atmosphere is much more relaxed and all the guests who stay here compliment Mrs. Johnson on her excellent meals. You may even hear her husband playing the bagpipes particularly if there's a competition coming up.

Lochmaddy is the ideal base from which to explore the Uists and Benbecula. You can go bird watching in the nature reserves, take a trip to look for otters and seals or find yourself a deserted golden beach.
