In the Spring of 2003, a group of 13 men rowed from Ireland to Iona in a canvas-covered 'curradh' (the kind of boat used by Saint Columba on his voyage in 563 AD).

In 2004, some of these pilgrims returned to Iona, from where they embarked on a 3-week journey from Southend in Kintyre, through Argyll and up the Great Glen to Inverness. Their goal was the hill of Craig Phadraig where Columba (in 565 AD), met with the Pictish King Brude, and eventually converted him to Christianity.

Alison Wilkie accompanied a group of 3 pilgrims as they made their way through the wonderful coastal scenery, along winding Highland roads, visiting the islands of Gigha and Easdale, each with their own story to tell, and from Oban northwards to Loch Ness with its well-recorded associations with the saint.

Several locals en route took time to chat on camera, and their contributions add a specially piquant flavour to 'The Journey'.

Running time: approx 55 minutes.
